Obsession begins with a book

11 Aug

I’m many things. A writer. A sister. A girlfriend. A friend. A daughter. And these are just a few but this week i’ve discovered another side to myself. I’m obsessive. Not just a little obsessive either I mean truly obsessed. When an idea grabs me it will NOT let me go. Let me explain.

I decided to self publish and when you make this decision it means you add a whole host of other roles to your repertoire. Editor. Illustrator. Marketer. Publisher. Agent. In my case my obsession centres round the role of illustrator….Seeing as I cant draw to save my life imaging to change illustrator to designer. Now I decided that I was going to create covers for my books but it’s surprisingly difficult to transform my 100,000+ words into a single image.

You’ve seen the evolution of my book covers if you’ve been following this blog but if not let me explain. It began with Seared by Desire and because I had Rocked by Passion published as well my obsession spread. I thought they were all absolutely lovely at the time but still something niggled at me. It was sort of like that sensation you get when there’s something in your shoe. You want it gone more than anything but you just can’t seem to make it happen.

Nothing seemed to work for me. I spent days working on new ideas, obsessively trying to create what I wanted to represent my books. Nothing worked! Everything was alright but nothing was outstanding. Personally I think my insanity was beginning to spread…if the murderous looks my sister kept giving me are anything to go on. Really, I think she was going to murder me when I was asleep if I showed her one more image. But then it happened. That eureka moment!

I can’t be sure but I think it came about when I got the letter from the US tax office, which by the way, did not give me the news I wanted to hear. After two months of waiting, I finally saw a letter from the IRS. I was so excited until I opened the letter…Did it hold the long awaited tax payer code? Absolutely not. No, it held a letter requesting information. After the fiasco of me getting into the US embassy I didn’t think I needed to give any more information. I filled the letter out in the IRS office and was told it was fine, that I should expect the tax payer number within 12 weeks. Apparently that wasn’t good enough….Anyway, I’m getting side tracked.

The point I’m trying to make is that after weeks of obsessing I think I’ve finally done it.

I’ve finally created book covers that I’m 100% happy with!

Take a look. Weeks and weeks of labouring and I finally have a finished project. Creating a cover I was happy with filled my every thought and meant I didn’t get much writing done which is a sorry state of affairs.

So in series order, here are the final book covers for the Elemental Passions series.

Seared by Desire

Rocked by Passion

Whirlwind of Pleasure

Submerged in Ecstasy

To make up for my lack of writing I have three things for you!

1 – The book trailer for the series 😉

2 – A contest

Tell me which cover is your favourite and I’ll arrange for one reader to win a free copy of that book. Seared by Desire and Rocked by Passion are complete and if you’re happy to wait about a month then you can have Whirlwind of Pleasure which is what I’m currently working on. All you have to do is leave a comment saying which one is your favourite.

3- A Promotion

Because I’m so pleased with how they’ve all turned out I’m also going to run a promotion as well. I’m going to put Seared by Desire and Rocked by Passion in a head to head battle!! You vote for your favourite and the book that wins will be discounted by 50% until the end of August!!

You’re improving by leaps and bounds. These new covers are more balanced-looking, and certainly suit you more. My personal favorite is the cover for Submerged in Ecstasy, perhaps because of its mysterious air. Well done! 🙂

Perhaps, if you like, I could help you make future book covers…? I’m not so versatile with pen and paper (I am incapable of drawing the male body), but I would be happy to help with what I can. :3

The cover of Whirlwind of Pleasure is my favourite.:D Air/wind is practically invisible and can be hard to portray, but you came up with this.:D And there was also there was the part of Gwen with her love for flowers, so I think this cover fits this book perfectly.:D

Well, seeing as I have the first 2 already, I say I like the Whirl Wind of Pleasure. And you say it’s gonna be out in a month? Sweet, gives me time to save up some money to send you for an autographed copy then, if I don’t get the free copy that is. =P Looking forward to seeing the finished results of Whirl Wind of Pleasure, as well as Submerged in Ecstacy. Send me a message on Facebook letting me how long you think that one will take so I can start saving up for that one as well. lol

    P.S.
Your blog site isn’t letting me log in through my facebook any more. T_T

I really like these new covers they seem to have better consistency than the previous ones you’ve designed and have that clear link between them. They look very professional! I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I find that interesting covers do urge me to read the back and see what it’s all about, and more often than not I’ll end up buying it. What I’m basically saying is that these new covers would definately intrigue me to find out more if I knew nothing of the series.
Personally I like the Submerged in Ecstasy cover the best. It’s got this air of mystery surrounding it (perhaps because it’s a bit darker than the others) and the water dripping is just a fantastic image.
Well done on the new covers!

I’m guilty of it too! I know I shouldn’t judge but it’s hard not to that’s why I kept tinkering with the cover art!

Seared by Desire is my favorite book cover. I love how bright it is. It really portrays the intensity of the book as well.

Oh, they’re all so very nice!
Though I must say, the Rocked by Passion cover has the best look in my opinion. Beautiful. (:

I think it works quite well though if I’m honest Kieron is one of the least simple characters in the entire series but that’s a topic for another day.

I like them all but I really like the seared by Desire cover. There is something really cool about the rose going up in flames of desire! 🙂

I was hoping for that kind of effect when I did them. And as you can see I’ve been on quite a journey before settling on these images. The thing is I’ve uploaded 4 images for each book cover but there are far more than that on my hard drive. No more book coves until the next series!

Tough decision. They are all very nice. I think Seared by Desire is my favorite though. I love the flaming tulip. :o) They all make you want to see what’s happening inside them :o)

PS: I just started reading A Wolf’s Duty! Yay! :o)

You’re reading A Wolf’s Duty? Awesome!!! I really hope you enjoy it! And if you do, would you mind being extra awesome and leaving a short review?
      Thanks

They are all very nice! I love how you were able to portray all the elements. I try not to care too much about a cover, but I usually feel a tad judgement from the checker if it’s a hot embrace on the cover. 🙂 Your covers are all very unique & great. Rocked by Passion would definitely grab my attention the most, although I like the flower on fire in Seared by Desire! Thanks so much for the update and the trailer!

You sound just like me. Conflicted as to which one is your favourite. Glad to know it’s not just me 🙂
